On 31 October 2025, Head of EUBAM Slawomir Pichor met with the Director of the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova Alexandru Iacub to reaffirm the enduring partnership between the two institutions. The meeting underscored twenty years of cooperation dedicated to strengthening border security, facilitating trade, and advancing Moldova’s path toward EU integration.

Director Iacub commended EUBAM’s longstanding contribution to institutional capacity-building, emphasizing that the Mission’s expertise and technical assistance have been instrumental in aligning Moldova’s customs and border management practices with EU standards. “Throughout our two decades of partnership, EUBAM has been a constant and trusted partner in our shared efforts to enhance resilience and ensure security at the Moldova-Ukraine border,” he stated.

Head of Mission Slawomir Pichor acknowledged the Customs Service’s impressive progress over the years, noting its evolution into a professional and forward-looking institution. “Our collaboration stands as a model of effective partnership, where commitment to reform and shared values have translated into tangible improvements in daily operations and strategic planning,” he said.

Since 2005, EUBAM has continuously supported the Moldovan Customs Service through advisory assistance, training, and the provision of technical equipment. These efforts have fostered the introduction of modern tools and methodologies in areas such as risk management, anti-fraud measures, and trade facilitation, contributing to a safer and more efficient border environment.

As EUBAM approaches its twentieth anniversary, both sides reaffirmed the solid foundation of trust and cooperation, which remains a cornerstone in promoting regional stability, secure borders, and closer integration with the European Union.
