EUBAM assists Ukrainian border guards in widening of European cooperation

Active international cooperation of border agencies and information exchange is one of the key pillars of the EU Integrated Border Management Concept.  Since the beginning of its activity EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) devoted much attention to the support in establishing of international contacts of its partners – border guard and customs agencies of Moldova and Ukraine. Successful cooperation of Ukrainian Border Guard Service with the European Agency for Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders Frontex is one of the examples of such activity.

Starting from 9 June, Kuchurgan BCP has become a part of Frontex ‘Coordination Points’ project. In the framework of this project, a border guard officer from an EU member state will be directly present at the border crossing point and provide support to the Ukrainian colleagues in information exchange and identification of possible risks and threats. Frontex expert as well will share with the Ukrainian border guards the European experience in the sphere of border control, identification and prevention of illegal migration and human trafficking.

During the last three years EUBAM had been a partner of Forntext in implementation of this project. EUBAM experts from the Field Office Kuchurgan provide the European colleagues the information on the general situation at the border and assist in technical issues.
