Building on a series of successful capacity-building initiatives, EUBAM, in close cooperation with the National Revenue Administration of the Republic of Poland (NRA) and with financial support from GIZ Ukraine, organized a four-day “Train the Trainers” workshop on X-ray image analysis for officers of the State Customs Service of Ukraine (UASCS). The event took place from 4 to 7 November 2025 at the Tax and Customs Academy Training Centre in Przemyśl, Poland.
This advanced training marked the continuation of joint efforts to strengthen the operational competencies of Ukrainian Customs officers in the effective use of X-ray scanning systems, following the 2024 knowledge exchange visit and basic training sessions held in Przemyśl.
A group of seven Ukrainian officers participated in the workshop, which focused on deepening their technical expertise and developing their pedagogical skills necessary to deliver training to other customs officers across Ukraine. The event was designed under the “training of trainers” principle to ensure the sustainability and multiplication of knowledge at both central and regional levels.
Throughout the workshop, Polish experts from the NRA guided participants through advanced image analysis exercises using RAPISCAN and NUCTECH truck scanning systems. The training combined theoretical sessions with practical exercises, including the development and delivery of participants’ own training presentations. Special emphasis was placed on the methodology of teaching, preparation of training materials, and structuring of practical exercises.
The successful completion of this workshop marks another milestone in strengthening Ukraine’s customs capacity and promoting EU best practices in border security. By empowering a new generation of trainers, EUBAM and its partners continue to invest in building resilient, professional, and modern customs services – ready to meet the challenges of today’s border management environment.
