Moving forward with the joint control implementation at Moldova-Ukraine border

On 17 December, a web conference on the implementation of joint control at the Moldova-Ukraine border was coordinated by EUBAM, in cooperation with IOM, bringing together representatives of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova, the State Customs Service of Ukraine and the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova, that share competencies on that matter.

The main topics on the agenda were the border and customs issues associated with the launch of full-fledged joint control at ‘Kuchurhan-Pervomaisk’ and ‘Giurgiulesti-Reni’ border crossing points (BCPs). In that regard, the parties provided an overview over the refurbishment works and discussed the organization preparations and the time frame for launching the full-fledged joint control at the two BCPs, in conformity with COVID-19 restriction measures.

Additionally, border and customs agencies’ representatives of the two countries discussed matters of common interest connected to the border infrastructure development plans at the Moldova-Ukraine border for 2021 and beyond, as well as the state of affairs in the implementation arrangements on the Agreement on Joint Control concerning the moving of persons, vehicles and goods across the Ukraine-Moldovan state border.
